About
Aloha, I’m Cool Snoops. I run things around here. If I don’t do it, then it doesn’t get done! I like to wear a mask to keep things mysterious and interesting around here, with only a few privileged folk knowing who I truly am. Eh, it’s a long story. One that I hope to elaborate more on one day in comic or novel form. Anyway, please allow me to introduce you to 2 other denizens that might pop up here and there…
This is Midnight, our delusional resident mascot. Everyone has to have a mascot, right? She’s very possessive, unpredictable, loves Scooby Snacks, has it out for the Easter Bunny and the Great Pumpkin (yes, they’re real), has a nasty allergy that causes her to sneeze a hurricane (don’t ask), and is currently my ward (especially don’t ask about that).
And this 12 inch bundle of joy is Leaf (I’m being sarcastic). She’s a famous, high ranking, unpredictable, easily excitable, and very powerful wood fairy you do not want to upset! I always have my hands full when Leaf is around. She also loves eating, cultivating, and decorating with Mandelions (Magic Dandelions). Leaf is good friends with Midnight. Unfortunately, she knows my secret identity, and is not beyond using blackmail to get what she wants, which usually consists of large orders of extremely rare and exotic Mandelions…
Anyway, Enchanting Media was established in the year 2000. It has gone through many incarnations and its focus has shifted over the years from file sharing on the Mac to sharing where to download the latest cartoons and comics, among other questionable…subjects. After being hacked beyond recovery (I really hate hackers), Enchanting Media is now narrowing its focus to that of its projects related to Cool Snoops’ Scanlation Group and miscellaneous FAQs about downloading cartoons and comics…
Cool Snoops’ Scanlation Group was established January 18, 2006. We (and I use this term loosely) are a one man team with our headquarters located in sunny Hawaii. Our mission is to translate into English every shred of Nuku Nuku printed material we can get our paws on! The only reason our name isn’t somehow related to Nuku Nuku is so that it doesn’t sound ridiculous when we’ve moved on to releasing other titles (like so many other groups). I do all the work: choosing the projects, finding the material, scanning, editing, web promotion, and releasing the projects for mass leaching. Unfortunately, I have to rely on the translations of others. So far I’ve had 2 translators help me in the past. I’m always looking for other Japanese to English translators and will reimburse you for your services accordingly. Please contact me if you’re interested…
Oh, and please don’t confuse me/us with Snoopy Cool (that’s actually happened in IRC channels in the past)…I came up with my nick waaaay before I even knew about the world of scanlation and manga. So I wasn’t trying to copy anyone, honest! ^_^’
How we got started:
I was looking for a project to break into this exciting field, but alas, everyone took my ideas. It’s true I could go ahead with my plans (like some groups do), but I don’t like duplicating the efforts of others. I was going to scanlate Dragon Half. As most of you know that are familiar with this manga, only the first 2 volumes were scanlated into English a long time ago. I had planned on finishing the last 5 volumes, but someone else beat me to it while I was busy in 2005 with moving and building our house. Now it’s been licensed! I never thought I’d see the day…
So I decided to try a different project after I got a digital camera. I used our digital camera and took pictures of the Nuku Nuku artbook that I had bought. I didn’t want to scan it because I would damage the spine. That’s why I was sitting on it (figuratively speaking, of course). I was surprised that the quality was pretty good, even though it was very awkward to do. We now scan all of our releases, unless we’re using someone else’s raws, with plans on eventually scanning the releases that I took pictures of. I hope yall enjoy our releases!
